Brittany Alexis Porter is a native of Miami, Florida, and proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. She graduated magna cum laude with honors from Hampton University with a B.S. in Business Administration and minors in Political Science and Leadership Studies. Fueled by a passion and responsibility for social justice, Brittany pursued an opportunity with Teach For America, a national corps of leaders committed to teaching in low-income schools, as a high school Algebra I and Calculus instructor. During her first year, she exceeded all expectations when her Algebra I students, formerly assessed as below grade level, surpassed the Dallas Independent School District average. As a second-year teacher, Brittany was promoted to Team Lead for the Algebra I department and Director for the Academy of Finance. Inspired at a young age by the daytime juggernaut Judge Judy, Brittany concluded her tenure with Teach For America to achieve a legal education at Pepperdine University. There, she served as President of the Black Law Student Association, Vice President of the Latino Law Student Association, and founder of Pepperdine’s Open Conversation, a group dedicated to discussing relevant social justice topics gripping on our society. As a second-year law student, Brittany orchestrated Pepperdine’s first Black History Month Program, with keynote speaker Academy Award-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr. That same year, Brittany partnered with iMentor Global to speak to students at View Park Prep Middle School in Crenshaw about the importance of obtaining a higher education as a minority and overcoming life’s obstacles through faith.

Her legal education has opened doors for her to intern at Prudential Financial, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles, and an insurance defense firm. This spring, Brittany will be graduating with her J.D. and certificates in Dispute Resolution and Entrepreneurship and Law (Real Estate focus). Brittany intends on pursuing a career into corporate law, while also utilizing her education and privilege as an attorney to inspire children of color to achieve a higher education and be fearless in the pursuit of their dreams. “During my first week of law school, I had the privilege of attending a speech by my future mentor U.S. District Judge André Birotte, where he told us to ‘feel the fear and do it anyway.’ That’s exactly what I plan to do!”
