The daughter of Nigerian immigrant parents, Chinelo was raised in the Central Valley town Elk Grove, CA where she took an interest in pursuing immigration and civil rights law after joining Mock Trial during her sophomore year in high school. Recent history has also played a major role in her pursuit of a legal career, including the unrelenting and unequal sentencing for black people and failure to provide justice for the victims.

Chinelo’s interest in immigration also stems from her recognition that recent immigration conversations tend to erase those who identify as black, even though many black immigrants also struggle with fear of deportation, labor theft, and lack of access to public services. She graduated from UC Santa Barbara where she double-majored in Political Science and Philosophy, and is now pursuing her JD at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law. After law school, she plans to pursue public interest law - especially in the fields of immigration and civil rights as it pertains to sex, gender, and race discrimination.
