Christian Martinez-Contreras

Christian M. Contreras is from the City of Los Angeles. Christian is a graduate of Loyola Law School and will be taking the California Bar exam in the 2018 summer. Christian attended Wilson High School where he played basketball. After high school, Christian attended community college and earned an Associate of Arts degree in Arts and Humanities. Christian then transferred to California State University Dominguez Hills. By this time, Christian was working full time at a college and going to school at night. In 2015, Christian earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Dominguez Hills.

At Loyola Law School, Christian was a member of the Scott Moot Court Honors Board. Christian was a brief writer and an oralist in the National Moot Court competition. Christian also worked as a law clerk at the civil rights firm Guizar, Henderson & Carrazco, LLP (GHC). At GHC, Christian worked on police brutality cases where his primary duties included drafting motions, reviewing and summarizing discovery, drafting complaints, preparing for depositions, and researching the law. As part of completing Loyola’s Civil Rights Litigation Practicum course, Christian also externed at Public Counsel. At Public Counsel, Christian worked in the Homelessness Prevention Law Project working on a range of issues including eviction defense.

Christian was inspired to go to law school by experiencing first-hand the hardships of living in low-income communities. Christian chose to go to law school to attain the tools required to help people who lack the resources to help themselves. Christian intends to work on civil rights issues with his law degree. Ultimately, Christian hopes to open a legal clinic which offers free or reduced price legal services to people.
