The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Montserrat immigrated to the United States at the age of six. As a first-generation student, she was provided with limited resources to post-high school enrichment, and despite this, was admitted to UC Davis from which she received a BA in Political Science and Chicanx Studies alongside a Minor in Religious Studies. In June 2018 she graduated with Honors is Political Science and Highest Honors in Chicanx Studies. During her time at UC Davis, she was deeply involved with social justice and advocacy campaigns, including extensive work in organization and advocating for AB540 and undocumented communities.

Montserrat has been recognized with numerous awards and honors including Dean's Honors List, prestigious scholarships and received the Outstanding Senior Award for her major in Chicanx studies. Her most rewarding recognition, however, has been her communities uplifting support and belief in her. Ultimately, she would like to practice as an immigration attorney in Los Angeles or Sacramento. She will remain at UC Davis to continue her studies, as she is now pursuing her JD in King Hall at the UC Davis School of Law.
